Communicating CSR and ESG initiatives

Helping businesses to explain their CSR and ESG offerings to internal and external customers.
Working from a position of transparency, to avoid greenwashing, land real benefits and show steps taken on a journey towards sustainability targets.
I’ve worked on CSR and sustainability with clients ranging from major corporates to ethical initiatives.

Coca-Cola Enterprises
Working on internal comms for CCEP, the goal was to keep employees informed about initiatives the company was taking, both at customer-facing level and to show what employees themselves were doing to improve their local environments.
From factories that send zero waste to landfill and investment in revolutionary waste recycling plants, to river clean-ups and community volunteering, there was plenty of great work going on.
I reported on these stories and published them in the company internal magazine, Contour, as well as ghostwriting employee emails from the CEO and writing for corporate documents.

Ethical Trading Initiative
The Ethical Trading Initiative is the leading authority on how companies, trade unions and voluntary organisations can create a better working life for everyone in the global supply chain.
By putting workers at the heart of what they do, they allow companies to take a ground-up approach to trading ethically, through innovative programmes backed by collaborative resources.
I wrote web and brochure copy to promote the ETI and the training courses they offer to businesses looking to do good in the world.
Dyson
The principle behind every product at Dyson was lean engineering – creating long-lasting products with only the materials needed, nothing extraneous.
It was a tricky message to land, but dialling up this principle while avoiding greenwashing was key to writing sustainability and CSR copy for Dyson. That included energy reduction and efficiency, innovation that meant Dyson machines were being improved through every iteration.
Working closely with the sustainability and CSR teams, I helped develop the language around how we promoted initiatives such as refurbishment and recycling, durability and minimising impact. That included areas such as using Dyson hand dryers versus the waste of paper towels.
I also wrote about Dyson Farming’s move towards sustainability through circular farming, including initiatives such as an anaerobic digester capable of powering 10,000 homes.
In copy for web and print, I explained how the James Dyson Foundation is an initiative for schools to encourage the engineers of the future to find solutions to global issues. And my writing for the James Dyson Award highlighted the annual search for game-changing inventions that could drive sustainability, health and environmental improvements.
